My husband Brian, and I, live on the banks of the Thamalakane River in Maun, Botswana . I met Brian 19 years ago in Johannesburg, South Africa and it was love at first sight! We lived together in Johannesburg for a few years before I decided I could not adapt to the city life and we moved back to Botswana for good.  We were married here in Maun in 1991. Brian is a printer by trade, and as there was a market for printing in Maun, we decided to open our own printing company. It is called "Mowana Printers" (Mowana is the Setswana name for Boabab tree) and has been doing pretty well since we started it years ago. We run the business from home.

Most of the work is done at night and on weekends - so we don't get many breaks to the bush these days!  Brian also has a day job providing safari companies with all their essential requirements.  We have 2 maltese poodles (Charlie & Polly) and 2 cats (Chucky & Zamalak). They are our beloved " children!" I have lived in Maun for most of my life and Brian has been here for 12 years and is now a Botswana Citizen.  We have a really great life in Maun and enjoy the laid back life we lead here! Brian also loves nature and wildlife. He  did a bit of hunting and shot his first lechwe with one shot!

In April 2005, my brother Mark, passed through Maun on his way back to Tanzania and we had the opportunity to get an up-to-date snap of the whole family! I threw a braai (BBQ) and we had a great time! Brian got to be the photographer as the last family photo was taken about 10 years ago!

My son, Michael McKelvey , turned 21 on 1st August 2004.  He lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, with his father Paul (my ex-husband), step-mum, Sharon and half-brother, Ryan. He is currently working as a mechanic but says he wants to get into computers - he is computer crazy!  He is a keen cyclist and competes in a lot of long distance racing.  He recently had an accident when his bike hit a car which had jumped a robot and he landed on his head on the other side of the car!  Luckily he was wearing his helmet and was not too badly hurt. He did spend 2 nights in hospital and had a huge gash  in his leg where his keys dug into it. He is a great young man and he also enjoys visiting us here and going into the bush on holiday.  Michael learned to shoot during his holidays and is a crack shot.  He shot his first lechwe when he was 12 years old!

Harry & Miki Selby 2005

My parents, Harry & Miki Selby, are now retired and living happily in their lovely home in Maun overlooking the river.  My father, Harry Selby, was a famous Professional Hunter for 50 years.  My mother, Miki Selby,  was a former Air Hostess with SAA, when she met and married my father in Nairobi, Kenya. She  later helped my father run the safari company (Ker, Downey & Selby Safaris) here in Maun  - she also kept the home together for years whilst my father was out in the bush! They are also animal lovers and have 3 dogs (Gus, Abby & Mitsi) and 1 cat (Smokey). They are both very active and happy here too! You can read more about  them and how they got from Kenya to Botswana in Joe Coogan's article
'Harry Selby-An African Legend' on the Home Page.

My brother, Mark Selby , is a renowned Professional Hunter and spends most of the year hunting in Tanzania.  He is 5 years older than me and we had great fun growning up in the bush together. When the hunting season is over, he flies to Thailand where he rents an apartment.  Early in the year, he normally flies to America where all the conventions are held for the hunting and photographic safari companies. He has a great life!  He pops in to see us all here in Maun every year  - both on his way to Thailand and again on his way back to Tanzania.
